Two Men Die After Allegedly Stealing Car From Lyft Driver In St. Cloud

Police say two men stole their Lyft driver’s car and lead police on a high speed chase early Tuesday morning that ended in a deadly crash.

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office states the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. Officers met a 46-year-old St. Cloud man walking in southeast St. Cloud after his vehicle was stolen. The man was working as a Lyft driver when he picked up two men on Lincoln Avenue. After driving for a period of time, authorities state one of the men reached for the steering wheel, causing the driver to pull over. The driver got out of the car and the two men stole his car and drove in excess of 110 mph. A Sherburne County Deputy attempted to catch up to the car but only found wreckage when he reached the intersection of County Road 8 and 38th Ave. One person was ejected from the vehicle and was announced dead at the scene, the other was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital where he was later pronounced deal.
