Red Flag Warnings Usher in Fire Season

Red Flag Warnings Issued in the BLA

The National Weather Service in Duluth, MN issued a Red Flag Warning for today, May 2
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS TODAY...
Gusty northwest winds with low to critically low relative humidities are expected
Today. Wind gusts of 20 to 30 mph are forecast along with low relative humidities
of 15 to 25 percent.

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 8 PM CDT THIS EVENING FOR WIND 
AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF NORTHERN MINNESOTA...
The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low
relative humidity, which is in effect from noon today to 8 PM CDT this evening. 

* AFFECTED AREA...In Minnesota, Koochiching, St. Louis, Itasca, Cass, Crow Wing, Aitkin,
Carlton and Pine.
* WINDS...North 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. 
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 17 percent. 
* IMPACTS...Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and become difficult to control.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... 
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or
will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
