No More Snow Days? Brainerd Public Schools Going To E-Learning For The Day On Thursday

According to a email sent out to parents, students will not be going to school on Thursday with over 6″ of snow predicted to fall throughout the day.

Here is the email parents received on Wednesday night:

Dear Warrior Family,

Due to the predicted inclement weather tomorrow, students will not report to school on Thursday, October 22, 2020, but will engage in eLearning activities. Please see the attached letter from Superintendent Laine Larson for more details.

What would usually be called a “snow day” is now an “e-learning” day. Superintendent Laine Larson wrote out what that means in a letter to parents as:

“What used to be referred to as a “snow day”, is now an “eLearning Day,” which helps us to continue classroom learning at home during weather-related school closures. An eLearning day is a student-contact day which provides an authentic learning experience between students and their teacher(s). It is not a homework make up day.”

Snow Days were some of the best times growing up. Getting the notice that you had a free day off meant sleeping in and making a snowman in the front yard or sledding. Now one has to wonder if those days are gone for good…
