2022 Lakes Area MEMORIAL DAY Weekend Events:

The annual Memorial Day service in Crosslake will be held on Sunday, May 29th at 8:30 at the Crosslake Lutheran Church.  At 10:00, a community-wide observance will take place at the Outdoor Worship Center on Daggett Pine Road across from the Crosslake Community Center baseball field.  Both services are open to the public.

The Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at the MN State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls will be on Sunday May 29th. The event will be back outdoors (weather permitting) beginning with music from the Richfield Symphonic Band at 1:30 pm followed by the program at 2:00 pm.  Please bring a lawn chair for seating.

MONDAY:
Brainerd’s Memorial Day ceremonies have been planned for Monday, May 30th staring at 9:00 at the Laurel Street Bridge in Brainerd where a wreath will be tossed into the Mississippi River to remember those military members lost at sea.  It will move to the All-Veteran’s Memorial for a 9:45 ceremony, followed by a Parade at 10:30 to the Evergreen Cemetery.  That is where, at 11:00, they will host the main, half-hour Memorial Day ceremony with the BHS Band and guest speakers.  (In case of rain, events will be held inside the Brainerd National Guard Armory).  A free Lunch for veterans and their families will be served from 12:00-2:00 at the Brainerd American Legion (free-will offering).  For more information, visit Facebook and search Brainerd Memorial Day or visit the Brainerd VFW website.

The Pine River American Legion (Post 163) will host three Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30th staring at 9:30.  The first ceremony will be held at the Pine River Dam at 9:30.  The service will then move to Pine Ridge Cemetery on Co. Rd. 1 at 10:00.  The final service will be at 11:00 at Swanburg Cemetery on Co. Rd. 1.  The speaker there will be Legion Post 163 Commander, Terry Steele.  All are welcome.

A Memorial Day Service will be held on Monday, May 30th at 9:30 at the Longville Fire Hall on County Road 5.  Presented by the Sherman A Yochum VFW Post 772 and the VFW Auxiliary, the service will feature music by the Longville Area Community Choir and also a keynote address.

The Ben Krueger American Legion (Post 49) in Pequot Lakes will host a Memorial Day event starting at 10:00 on Monday, May 30th in the Pequot Lakes High School auditorium.  Doors will open at 9:30.  Col. Chip Rankin of the Minnesota Army National Guard and former PLHS principal will be the guest speaker.  After the ceremony, the color guard will march to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery to fire a salute for fallen veterans then the community is invited to the PL American Legion for a free lunch.

The Maxon-Van Eps American Legion Post 368 of Backus will host two Memorial Day services on Monday, May 30th.  The first ceremony will be held at 10:00 at the Backus Evergreen Cemetery.  The service will then move to Ponto Lake Cemetery and begin around 11:00.  A club social and luncheon at the American Legion will follow services.

The Memorial Day observance in Crosby will be held Monday, May 30th at 10:30 at the Divide County Courthouse followed by a program and a luncheon at the Crosby-Ironton High School.

The Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place in Hackensack on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30th.  Join organizers at 11:00 as they gather together for the wreath laying ceremony at the Church on the Green.  They will be honoring those veterans from Hackensack who have given their lives to serve our country, by laying a wreath on the grave of General Enoch Poor—a brigadier general during the Revolutionary War.

The Nisswa American Legion (Post 627) will host a Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony at 12:00 noon on Monday, May 30th.  The ceremony will honor soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guard members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.  All are invited.
