It’s Fire Prevention Week in the BLA

It’s National Fire Prevention Week — which serves as an important reminder for the more than 1 in 4 Americans who never check their smoke detectors. 

A new report on American home maintenance neglect, found checking smoke detectors is the #1 most commonly forgotten home maintenance task.

Additional insights:

  • 37% only change their smoke detector batteries when it beeps
  • 1 in 6 do not remove lint from dryer after using it – the #2 most important home maintenance task
  • 22% of Americans use Daylight Saving Time as a reminder to change their smoke detector batteries

To help spread the word abou this week our area fire deartements have been and are hosting open houses to bring the community together in the name of safety and fire prevention. Nisswa held their open house on Tuesday evening and had a number of displays and equipment on display.

Pequot Lakes holds theirs from 4 to 7 Wed. 10/11. And Brainerd will host the open house at the main fire hall on Laurel Street Thursday 10/12 from 5 to 7.
