Traffic between Brainerd and Crosby is going to have to take the long way around, this summer. Eleven miles of highway 210 will be tore up and replaced starting in June. Shoulders and turn lanes as well as intersections will be improved.Starting after the 4th of July, traffic will be detoured on to Oak Street in Brainerd to State Highway 18 east of town to Minnesota Highway 6. Traffic will then head north to the intersection just east of Deerwood. That busy intersection will gain a temporary mini-round-about. According to the MN DOT website, before the main construction on 210 can occur the detour needs to be completed:
HWY 210 will close and detour along HWY 25 Brainerd, HWY 18 to HWY 6 Deerwood and HWY 6/HWY 210 to Crosby-Ironton. Detour map, PDF
To improve traffic flow and ease congestion on the detour, MnDOT will install a:
- Temporary mini roundabout at the east intersection of HWY 6 and HWY 210, just north of the railroad tracks, in Deerwood. Watch for trains, and stay off railroad tracks.
- Temporary traffic signal at the “T” intersection of HWY 25/Mill Ave and the westbound HWY 210 access connection to HWY 25 in Brainerd.
- HWY 18 bypass lane at the HWY 6 intersection near Bay Lake.
MN DOT states that access to businesses and residences to be maintained and open, however expect some changes and gravel surfaces. The road will be temporarily impassable at some locations to complete underground work, seek nearest alternative route. Work area map, PDF
