For three days this weekend there will be a “Mammoth” sale at the Crow Wing County Fair Grounds. The Garage and Bake sale is to support the Mid-Mn Women’s Center on Maple Street in Brainerd. The roof of their shelter is leaking and needs to be replaced. The problem is affecting their ability to serve area survivors of domestic abuse and they are looking to the community to help them fix the problem. They have been taking donations all this week and the sale begins on Friday.

I stopped by Industrial Building 5 to see for myself what they had already received for the sale. Vicky Behrens is the CEO of the women’s shelter. She said that the community support has been very good. They have receive numerous donations for the sale already and have essentially outgrown the space that they intended to use for the event. So, the Bake Sale would be held in the Fairs Food building to the south of Industrial Building 5.

As the items for sale get organized and set into groups there are many children’s books, toys and games to choose from. There are literally piles of clothing to be sorted and set out of the sale and numerous household items of all shapes and sizes.

This sale is a little different than your normal sale as most items are offered for a free will donation. There are some larger items with suggested donations, but the majority of things acquired with a gift of financial generosity.

Emily Carlson talked with B93.3’s Bill Satre about the sale.

The Mid-MN Women’s Center runs a domestic abuse shelter that serves all victims of domestic abuse, regardless of age or gender. Find out more about their service to the lakes area at their website https://womenscenteronline.org/
