Fire Prevention Week is underway this week (Oct. 4 – Oct. 8, 2021) and a couple of fire departments are hosting FREE family fun events that the public is invited to attend.
The Pequot Lakes Fire Department will host its annual Fire Prevention Safety Week Open House event on Wed. Oct. 6 from 4:00-7:00 in the parking lot of Pequot Lakes City Hall (also the firehall). Kids can meet the firefighters, check out the trucks, watch demos and enjoy free hot dogs and chips! Plus ride in a fire truck and meet Sparky, the fire dog! If not busy at the time, one of the Aircare helicopters may fly in for the event.
Then, the Brainerd Fire Department will host its annual Open House on Thurs. Oct. 7th. The open house will take place from 5:00-7:00 at the fire hall at 23 Laurel Street in Brainerd. Tour the station, meet the firefighters, learn more about the services they provide, watch demonstrations and participate in hands-on fire education activities.
This is also a time that all area fire departments want to remind everyone to check (and/or change) the batteries in your smoke detectors and have an escape plan and meeting place for your family. Practice that plan so you know what to do in case of a fire.
Stay safe!
