Camp Lake Resident Saves Hunters From Capsized Boat

On the morning of Friday, October 12th, a resident of Camp Lake saved a group of hunters who’s boat had capsized.

According to a press release sent out from Sheriff Dahl of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, they received a report of a capsized hunting boat with 3 hunters in the water on Camp Lake in southeastern Crow Wing County.

The call came in from one of the hunters, who was staying with the boat. One of the other hunters was swimming to shore with waders on. The report came in at 8:18 am. When deputies arrived on the scene at 8:39 am, they saw a pontoon with the hunters onboard.

It turns out a 71-year-old resident on the lake was having coffee in his home and saw something shiny in the lake. He realized someone was in trouble and took his pontoon out and helped get the hunters and their dogs into the pontoon and to shore.

The hunters were treated for possible hypothermia by ambulance personal.

The press release stated that “This time of year with the cold water, the body only has minutes until it loses the use of arms and legs. The hunters in this case probably would not have lived if it weren’t for the quick action of the lake resident.”.
