An additional 66 people have tested positive for coronavirus, the Minnesota Department of Health announced Monday.
The total stands at 235 known cases in the state, with one fatality. As of Sunday, 10 people remained hospitalized and five of them were in intensive care. The rest of the people with diagnosed cases were recovering at home.
On Sunday, the state Health Department said an additional 32 people had tested positive for COVID-19, which had been the largest daily increase until Monday’s update.
Gov. Tim Walz announced Monday that he is self-quarantining after learning a member of his security detail tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday night.
“I plan to lead by example and work from home,” Walz tweeted. “I currently have no symptoms and will continue working tirelessly to combat the spread of COVID-19. #StayHomeMN”
There have been cases reported in 31 of Minnesota’s 87 counties, but health officials say it is likely more widespread.
Most of the new cases announced Monday were in Hennepin County, which had an additional 32 for a total of 89. Ramsey County added six cases for a total of 24, and Dakota County had seven more cases for a total of 18.
Because of limited testing supplies, the state public health lab is focusing its testing on health care workers, and people who are hospitalized or in long-term care facilities.
