A third period goal by Warrior Captain Brynne Folden was the game winner to take the Brainerd and Little Falls girls back to the State Tournament. The Warriors win the Section 8AA championship game over the Moorhead Spuds at the Fergus Falls Community Ice Arena Thursday night (2/17/2022).
Riah Stroot jammed a point blank goal in early in the first period. The Warrior lead was short lived as the Spuds answered that goal minutes later. The Warriors were outshot in the first period, matched the spuds for shots in the second and had closed the gap in the third period as they played their best frame last.
Breya Sawyer saved 26 of the 27 shots she faced. She came up big when Moorhead pulled their goalie with 90 seconds and added the extra attacker.
The Minnesota State Girls Hockey Tournament will be held at the Xcel Energy Center beginning this Wednesday with Class A play.
