Brainerd Lakes Area Women Build With Habitat For Humanity

Habitat-Women-Build-2

Me…building a house?  No. Way.  Not possible.

Or IS it?  Well… it is – and I am going to get my hands dirty and give it a go… and I want other women to join me!

Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Women Build INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Thursday (Jan. 12) from 6:00 to 7:00 in the lower level of the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd and I am going.  I want to step out of my comfort zone, take off my fake nails, and POUND SOME REAL NAILS in an effort to help build a home for a family in need here in the lakes area.  I want to do something new and out-of-my-ordinary in the new year and this oughta do it!  I grew up with a mom who was a cook, a hunter and a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, building home across the country and cooking for them too!  I am attempting to cook more, I am still contemplating the hunting thing, but NEVER, EVER did I think building a house would be something I would EVER do… “like EVER” (to quote Taylor Swift).  Yet, here I am WANTING to give it a try!  New Year… new life, new things, new life skills!

This meeting on Thursday is for information only.  I am starting there.  There is no commitment required, but there will be a chance for you to sign up to help if you decide it’s what you want to do.   KEEP IN MIND there are other ways to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build OTHER THAN actually BUILDING.   These things will be discussed as well.

According to the invitation, Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity is “looking for women in the Lakes Area who would like to serve this community by being part of tone of the several different committees, donating as a business or individual, volunteering at the build site, or all of the above!”

Think about it, girls.  We can do hard things and we can build things… houses included.  On-the-job training.  NO previous experience necessary.  They’ll teach us!  Let’s do it!

Get your girlfriends together, co-workers, club members, etc… and come learn more.  They’ll provide appetizers for us, so please RSVP if you do plan to attend.  I sincerely hope to see you there.

RSVP online here.  Or by calling Lori at 218-828-8517.

I hope to see you there!
