Our first official event as a budding affiliate of the Midwest Country Music Organization was to attend the Awards show at the Medina Ballroom west of “the cities” in February of 2020. B93.3 morning host Bill Satre awarded the Song of the Year honor to Lake and Lyndale that night. We interviewed all of the New Artist of the year nominees on the red carpet and produced the morning show for Monday morning around this collection of talented musicians and artists. That evening we explored the idea that there could be a program where all of these talented people could find there way to the radio, many for the first time. The seeds of the Midwest Country Music Originals program was planted on that magical night.
Then there was a pandemic and all live music venues were closed and everyone went online… including us. Thanks to some of the relationships that were forged on that evening in February of 2020 we were able to bring some much needed live music to the radio in the BLA and our website with the B93.3 Couch Concerts from Studio B. In an environment where all of us were exploring new ways to do things that we never dreamed we would ever need to do, we used video conferencing tools and home studios to produce a series of video events. We set up safe recording sessions, in Monticello at Rustech Brewing, and at Fractional Toys in Oakdale where we had some room to interview and perform a show. Finally, as we started to emerge from quarantine for a while in the early summer of 2020 there was an outdoor show at the Sidetrack with the Plott Hounds and we were there for the final Couch Concert during their stage sound check.
So, as we got back on track in the summer of 2021, B93.3 was the first station (one of the first) to sign on to run the new Midwest Country Music Originals hosted by PT. You can hear the show every week on B93.3 at 5am Friday mornings and at 6pm Saturday evenings. We broadcast from the 2021 Lakes Jam, were MWCMO talent, as well as national acts, were out and performing for live crowds many for the first time in a very long time. We followed up with Iconic Fest at Green Lantern, Winstock Festival, #Livin Fest and Summer Lantern Bash, plus checking in on our MWCMO friends at establishments like Roundhouse Brewery, Lonesome Pine and Ernies on Gull.
Despite the pandemic, and sometimes because of it, we have been afforded the opportunity to jump out of the ordinary and do something that matters for live music and musicians in the upper midwest. Most importantly we have been able to bring these talents to you on air and online during trying times and share the gift of music. The recognition with this nomination is exceptionally gratifying. Regardless of out come at the awards on Feb. 20th, we have had a lot of fun. We’ve made livelong friends and hopefully helped some talented wonderful musical people come a bit closer to their dreams, making great country music for you.
