In a “food-scape” that seems to be littered with pizza places across the lakes area a new one opening this summer might not have seemed like a very good idea. Yet this summer Grand View Lodge opened a new pizza destination that has defied the better judgement of many. Crust At Grand View Lodge replaced the iconic Italian Gardens this season yet the character and charm of the old favorite lives on in the new creation.
The menu includes an array of pizzeria style pies but also carries a few of the pasta favorites from the old Italian Gardens. Pair your pizza with a delicious wine. We ordered the meat lovers pizza. It came with a nice flaky crust, just right, with fine selections of meats, cheeses and sauce. I happen to prefer the Colombia Valley wines and found a Cab-Sav of my liking with the bottle running about $30. In the end it was the atmosphere, and staff, that made it an experience. In the standard the Grand View has become know for it did not disappoint.
The decision to migrate from an Italian style family restaurant to a pizzeria may not seem at face value to fit with upscale dining choices at the famed Grand View Lodge. However, with the new hotel opening on the property and the opportunity to serve an additional 600 guests, pizza will be a sought after food choice for those night when a heavy upscale meal isn’t preferred. Plus outside delivery options are very limited at the location on the north shore of Gull Lake.
Crust at Grand View offer another perk, outside dining. Add Crust to the list of unique outdoor food destinations. As “On The Rocks” compliments the “Northwoods Grill” in the main lodge, Crust has a charming outside eating area that overlooks a golf course as well as stone faced fire place and the “up-north” feel at the resort.
Oh and save some room for dessert.
