2 Dead Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Backus

Two people are dead after an officer-involved shooting occurred when authorities responded to a report of an intruder in a home in Backus.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office told KSTP-TV that deputies were called about an intruder in a home and a possible shot fired just after 1:30 Sunday afternoon.

The KSTP report says deputies responded and encountered an armed man on a residential street. The sheriff’s office said the man approached deputies while holding the gun and a deputy fatally shot the man.  Authorities then then discovered a man who was pronounced dead inside the home.

Authorities also said there’s no threat to the public.

The names of the deceased men and the officers involved will be released at a later time.

The officers involved are currently on paid administrative leave, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
